Nana Tea, 2023 Nana Tea is a piece I've crafted to honor the classic Moroccan nana (mint) tea drinking tradition. The prevalence of yellow embodies the warmth of friendship and family while the reflections represent the meditative aspects of tea drinking. My unique blend of painting digitally and embellishing by hand is symbolic of the timelessness of nana tea; the old together in harmony with the new. For over 300 years, Moroccans from Marrakech to Casablanca have and continue to enjoy this tea today just as I do with my family. What's wonderful about this age old tradition is that all Jewish and Muslim Arabs in Morocco participate in drinking nana tea. The young, old, poor, rich, Muslim and Jewish people put aside their troubles for a moment to enjoy the simplicity of the mint sprig steeping in a cup of hot water to be savored with the sweetness of the palm dates.
